Our Rescue Chickens |
|
We were so excited when our chickens arrived! We had kept rare breed hens before, but these new girls were rescued from a battery farm. They came to us on 27th February 2007. They were a bit phased for the first couple of days, probably because they had so much space to move around in, but it didn’t take long for them to find their feet and develop a healthy attitude to life! Within a few days, they were demanding treats (corn and, especially, toast and Marmite) in addition to their staple diet. It was lovely to see them scratching on grass for the first time in their lives. I think they think they have died and gone to Heaven! The bonus to us is that they lay us the most wonderful eggs! They have not learnt to perch yet but maybe that will come….
